What if you could buy a piece of software for your PC and be 100% sure it would work flawlessly? What if you then bought an Apple Macintosh (or a Linux machine) and the same piece of software worked perfectly on those too without any modification, or the need to buy another license? Wouldn't that be great?

Of course software doesn't work that way but, if we all work towards it, the web just might. The W3C (the not-for-profit governing council) work to create standards that ensure designers can produce sites that will display well across all standards-compliant browsers regardless of platform.
