principles of usability:
making your site easy to use

There's a lot written about web site usability, but we believe it all comes down to three golden rules:

1: the customer is in charge

On the internet, the customer is always in control. If they find your site difficult to navigate, all your competitors are just a mouse click away.

Small Fry designs sites from your customers' perspective - anticipating what they'll want to achieve when they visit your site. Then, we build a site that makes it easy for them to do it (with pre-launch user-testing ensuring we've got it right). As a result you'll get repeat visits that your competitors won't.

2: everyone should be welcome

Why do some sites insist you download a browser plug-in to view them? Why do others fail to work at all when viewed using Apple Macintoshes, Linux PCs, and alternate browsers such as Mozilla Firefox? More often than not it all boils down to lazy web design.

Small Fry believe it doesn't make sense to turn a single potential customer away. We ensure that our sites perform well on all major computer platforms and all major browsers. So, when you open for e-business, very potential customer will feel welcome.

3: speed is king

Research suggests that net users will not wait more than 8 seconds for a web page to download. So why do companies persist in commissioning sites where pages take up to a minute to download?

Often, it's because the site was demonstrated on a corporate intranet or over ADSL, rather than over a standard (56kbps) modem connection or when the site is busy with lots of visitors.

Small Fry makes sure that your site downloads quickly and smoothly. We optimize every file to make sure you customers see the world wide web, not the world wide wait!
